CAF Appeal Board has crowned Morroco the AFCON champion after labeling Senegal’s dramatic victory a forfeit.
After several months of reviewing the incident that transpired on the pitch, CAF stripped off AFCON trophy from Senegal and awarded it to Morroco.
Senegal was found guilty of trespassing and breaching article 84, which reads that any team that leaves the pitch without the refree’s approval will be forfeited and handed a 3-0 loss. This was applied on Senegal for leaving the pitch following their protest against bad officiating.
Even though they came back to finish up the match with Mendy saving Diaz crucial last-minute penalty and going forward to winning the game, they were stripped of their glory.
Via CAF official Statement, Morroco is officially the Champions of 2025/2026 AFCON trophy after overturning the actual champions over breaching of rules.
Fans across the globe have reacted massively via all the social media platforms, with many discrediting CAF decisions, while some praised it.
Senegal, on the other hand, has refused to accept the decision as they plan on filing their own lawsuit.
